Reza Salleh Trio
One of the top names in the Malaysia’s acoustic scene, Reza Salleh is a central figure in Malaysia’s thriving singer-songwriter circuit and is often seen in an intimate, solo acoustic format or backed by a tight, dynamic trio/quartet. He calls his music “a little bit of everything”, drawing from pop, grunge, R&B, folk and many other genres he grew up listening to.
A winner and five-time nominee at Malaysia’s Anugerah Industri Music, Reza was also the first independent singer-songwriter to be invited to do a full showcase at the prestigious Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS. He performed to a sold-out crowd, backed by an eight-piece ensemble.
Not bound by just Malaysian soil, he has played in Australia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia and Japan. He was the first Malaysian to be invited to play a major stage at Japan’s 19th Annual Sunset Live Festival in Fukuoka, Japan in 2011 and was invited to play the Asia Music Found showcase and the Nakasu Jazz Festival in Fukuoka, Japan in 2015 as well as the official music event for Hakata city’s annual Yamakasa Festival. This year he’ll be playing the Daegu Folk Festival in Daegu, Korea.
Beyond his own personal music he is also a very active facilitator and supporter of the Malaysian independent music scene. Besides curating and booking for festivals, through his company Moonshine Productions he has been organizing three to five shows every month for the past 10 years; providing a music platform for local acts in the Klang Valley.
His performance at Alexis will be backed by Savy Ho on the violin and Sharon Chong on keys, a trio format emphasizing the heartfelt side of Reza’s compositions, the same format he brought to the Daegu Folk Festival in Korea earlier this year.
