Julian Moreen (Germany)
Fri. 18th & Sat. 19th Oct 2019

One year after his acclaimed 2018 Asia Tour, German Singer-Songwriter & Pianist Julian Moreen is back again in Kuala Lumpur with an international band of young musicians from New York, Austria, Taiwan and Malaysia.  Putting acoustic piano and electric guitar at the forefront of his characteristic sound, he creates an atmospheric, yet driven soundscape that unfolds somewhere between folk music, modern jazz and indie rock. Paired with an expressive voice, his music is lyrical, almost meditative at times, only to soon “burst with the energy of a late summer storm” (German Newspaper BZ, 2018).

Julian Moreen is joined by an outstanding group of young musicians and long-time companions: Austrian drummer Konstantin Kraeutler, Taiwanese upright bassist Yu-Jia Liu and Malaysian guitarist Andrew Cheng.  Cheng met Julian Moreen while studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, and after graduation both moved together to New York.  Soon, they found themselves performing at well-known clubs such as Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End and many others.  In fall 2018, they went on their first Asia tour playing over 20 dates in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan including national radio and news appearances, music workshops and masterclasses, followed by a series of shows in Germany and Switzerland.

Now they’re back in Kuala Lumpur for the first time at Alexis with an exciting show for two nights on Oct 18-19.
