Special Christmas Evening with Dasha Logan with Michael Veerapen Trio feat. Julian Chan
Tues. 24th Dec 2019

Returning to the Alexis stage for one night only on this Christmas Eve is none other than Dasha Logan, daughter to the late Alleycats’ vocalist Loganathan Arumugam with The Michael Veerapen Trio feat. Julian Chan.  Dasha is no stranger to the KL music scene. Having been exposed to the music industry from a very young age, she has been passionate about music and performing ever since. Amongst many achievements, her single ‘Cleverly’ reached the top spot on the UK Soul Chart in 2014. She is also in the Malaysian Book of Records as the first Malaysian on an international music chart.

When discussing Malaysian jazz, Michael Veerapen’s name is synonymous with Malaysian music, particularly in the field of Jazz where he is widely acknowledged to be the driving force behind the jazz scene in Malaysia.

Together with drummer Lewis Pragasam, they organized Malaysia’s first Jazz Rock concert in 1978, which brought about a tremendous interest in jazz especially amongst younger audiences and thereby planting the seeds for the way jazz is loved in this country. Michael’s studies at the prestigious Berklee College of Music proved to be a major factor towards making his illustrious career; as a renowned Jazz Pianist, as a Composer, a Musical Director. His jazz club “All That Jazz” was an institution in and of itself, earning an international reputation for being one of the best and most significant Jazz Clubs in the Asia region.

Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Julian has been an active performer in the Malaysian and regional music scene since 2001.  He has graduated with a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from Queens College in New York, where he studied with jazz greats Antonio Hart, Michael Mossman, (the late) Prof. Howard Brofsky and David Berkman.  Julian has performed with both local and international artistes (both jazz and of other styles) and also has established himself as a prominently versatile saxophonist in the region.  As part WVC – Malaysian Jazz Ensemble, he has recorded several instrumental and vocal albums.  Julian is also an active educator, being an adjunct lecturer at the Institute of Music, UCSI University, as well as his own private saxophone studio.
